Call for abstracts

The Belgian SMR Day 2027 invites abstracts on small modular reactors (SMRs) and the activities, technologies and capabilities relevant to their potential deployment in Belgium and abroad. We welcome contributions from across the SMR value chain.

Each accepted abstract will be given a short lightning talk slot in the programme and a poster, displayed during the poster session.

The call is open to researchers, students, companies, industrial organisations, potential SMR users, public authorities and other stakeholders. Abstracts may describe completed work, ongoing projects, methods, case studies, lessons learned or well-defined research and engineering challenges.

Topics of interest

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

• Reactor concepts, design, physics, modelling and thermal-hydraulics
• Nuclear fuel, fuel-cycle services, radioactive waste and decommissioning
• Materials, components, manufacturing and supply chains
• Safety, security, safeguards, licensing and regulation
• Siting, environmental assessment, project delivery, construction and operation
• Energy-system integration, industrial applications, economics and financing
• Digital technologies, workforce, policy and public engagement

We are interested in work at any stage of the process that could be relevant to Belgium, including research, industrial readiness, infrastructure, regulation, deployment and operation. The list is intentionally broad: submissions need not address the reactor itself if they contribute to an SMR activity or capability that may take place in Belgium.

Lightning talks and posters

The programme committee will review submitted abstracts for relevance to the conference. Each accepted abstract is presented as a lightning talk during the short-presentations session (11:30–12:30) and as a poster. Submission instructions, abstract requirements and the submission link will be published here when the call opens.

Posters will be on display throughout the day, and the poster session takes place during the lunch break (12:30–14:00). Presenters are expected to attend it to present their work and discuss it with participants.

Timeline
